Special Education Credential

Scholarship Program

In December 2018, the Las Virgenes Unified School District was awarded a $1,500,000 Special Education Capacity Building Grant. This grant allows for LVUSD to offer a limited number of scholarships, not to exceed $20,000 to qualified aspiring Special Education teachers in the Ventura/Los Angeles area to cover the costs of tuition, fees, and books incurred in getting a California Education Specialists Credential.

To apply for this program, aspiring candidates must have a bachelors degree from a regionally-accredited university. Additionally, all candidates accepted into this program will be required to work for LVUSD for four years, or else they will need to pay back a portion of the scholarship. Given that scholarships are limited, an application process involving letters of recommendation and an interview are required. If a candidate is not selected for a scholarship this year, they can re-apply in future years, provided that funding continues to be available. For all candidates hired by LVUSD, the cost of clearing your credential will also be covered by this grant.
